If you’re looking for a good way to make some extra money while staying at home and helping the environment, a compost business might be for you. This fairly simple business model practically guarantees profits and has virtually no start-up costs.
Start by gathering a pile of organic material. Ideally, your pile should be about half brown material like dead leaves and sticks, and half green material such as kitchen scraps and grass clippings. Place your pile at least fifteen feet away from your house or other structures.
Allow the pile to sit on the ground in order to attract worms and other bugs that will decompose the material. Cover your pile with a tarp in order to create heat, a hot compost pile will decompose faster and kills weed seeds. Once every few days, use a pitch fork to turn over your pile.
Once you have created compost, it’s time to sell. Place compost for sale ads on free online sites, and price your compost to be competitive with bagged options at local hardware stores.
