Why Are Pill Bottles Designed the Way They Are?

Blister packaging services

Did you know that nearly 70% of people in the U.S. are taking a prescriptive drug, while more than half of the population takes two? What’s more astounding than that is the fact that one-fifth (20%) of patients are on five or more medications.
While it’s plain to see that the vast majority of Americans need to take their medicine, what’s not entirely clear is why pharmaceutical companies use the bottle packaging designs they do. The majority of patients are elderly, and have difficulties opening their prescriptions. Why don’t bottle packaging companies make them easier? Why can’t they have easier bottle packaging designs?
There’s actually a few very good reasons, in fact.

Childproofing.
The main reason why a lot of people have difficulty with bottle packaging designs is because they’ve been childproofed. In order to open them, bottle packaging services have made it so that you have to press down and twist. Though it is a little bit tricky, such difficulties are worth ensuring that children won’t accidentally get into prescriptions.

Tamper-Proofing.
Over-the-counter bottle packaging designs come with a tamper proof seal over the medicines. This is to make sure, as the name implies, that no one has tampered with the medicines. It would be catastrophically disastrous if someone were to maliciously insert foreign substances into medicines. The tamper proof seals are meant to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Opacity.
Prescription bottle packaging designs are made opaque so that their contents can be easily seen from the outside. This helps pharmacists and patients to identify the medicines contained within, and to tell when they’re running low.

Storage.
Pill bottles are designed according to certain specifications to make sure that they’re spatially efficient. This helps pharmacies and doctors distribute the medicine more efficiently and effectively.

Though pill bottle packaging designs may be a bit frustrating at times, the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. Get more here: www.sharpservices.com
