The U.S. plastics industry employs approximately one million workers and contributes $375 billion to the economy, but are not the only ones hard at work in the industry. Husky Injection Molding Systems, based in Ontario, Canada, announced in October that they will be hosting an exhibit at the Gulfood Manufacturing 2015 conference held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Husky’s display will feature a range of their innovative beverage packaging solutions, including PET preform and beverage closure molding solutions that not only help to improve the design and functionality of packaging, but also optimize productivity, efficiency and part quality, according to the industry news source PlasticsToday.com.

?Husky is very excited to exhibit at Gulfood Manufacturing as this event will provide us with an unprecedented opportunity to connect with both existing and prospective customers throughout the Middle East, Africa and South Asia,? said Wassim Labban, Husky?s Vice President, Beverage Packaging Sales, EMEA and SAARC. ?The food and beverage industry is thriving in this region and it is important for Husky to engage with customers so we can continue providing meaningful solutions to support their unique and changing needs.?

One of the highlights from Husky will be a display of examples of its recently introduced multi-layer barrier technology. This new beverage packaging innovation offers manufacturers a host of new possibilities as far as PET is concerned. Especially for products requiring enhanced barrier properties, such as juice, milk, and food. There’s always room for improvement even though the one-gallon plastic milk jug used today uses considerably less plastic, weighing 30% less than 20 years ago.

The other beverage packaging solutions Husky will be showing is its low cavitation system capabilities. These new systems will help lower volume beverage packaging suppliers by giving them the ability to manufacture high quality preforms with increased flexibility.

The beverage packaging solutions market is just one sector of the ever-growing flexible packaging industry. Globally the market for flexible packaging is forecast to grow at an annual average rate of 3.4% during the period 2015 to 2010, reaching $248 billion.
